With a better mix

This song could be mucch more powerful with a better mix. A few tips i can give you are these: If you havent used doubled guitar tracks, that will bring out alot more power from them, record another track as close as possible to the other rythm track and pan one to the L and one to R. Make sure you dont just duplicate the one you already have.

Another thing is that the bass over-powers the guitar at the beginning, it could be either tuned down or you could tune the really low frequencies down.

Drums sound a bit weak, they probably need to have the right kind of reverb and/or be EQ'd, but it's hard to say.

Fix those things and it will be a much better piece!

Solid Seven

The melody at the beginning is very cool, and after that, the sudden brutal emerging riffs are interesting, I enjoy them alot. However, there is still room to improve.
The REALLY low-end you could easily EQ down a bit, because it seems very overpowering, and also, EQ the REALLY highs and mid-highs up a bit in this mix. You would have a much smoother sound.
The guitar playing is great, however, the guitars both at the beginning and before the solo clip, and create a displeasing sound when listening to it through this flash player.
Only other problem is the very beginning, which needs some kind of percussive element in the background, either acoustic guitar or anything else, would make it great to listen to.
Most of these problems are with the mix and such, you playing and composition is very good. Fix these and it's a solid nine or ten!

-You did a nice job on this, I don't want to attack you, but i want to help you improve, so I will offer some critiscism. The mix is lacking some powerful mid to low end from the guitars, which sound a bit thin.
-Also, the lead parts are quite a bit sloppy, and Dan, one thing you need to work on is tone. For a guitar player, you want to sound clean in your bends, with really crisp tone and accurate vibrato, try some satriani or robin trower for that practice.

Overall, nice job guys!

Thanks for "not attacking" us. I hate to break it to you, but you are allowed to have your own opinion. If you don't like the mix, that is fine. That is your taste. Dan's tone is fine as well. I HIGHLY doubt he needs the practice as you suggest, as his shit is clean as fuck. Unless, I send you a copy of the song without the leads, and you show us what you mean. Because, I'm having trouble interpreting your review, on the leads.

I do think i need to go back and drop the mids and highs on the drums, as they cut through the mix too much creating that "thin" sound you hear. However, they are layered 4 times, 2 separate tones, covering all the ranges.

well, i also wrote a song like this on the organ, havent synthed it yet. but that harmonic minor progression at 00:26 is almost identical to the one i used. I suppose that it's a pretty generic progression though.
